I’m Anthony Grant. I am a third-year PhD candidate in social policy at Brandeis University with a concentration in economic and racial equity. My primary research interest is exploring how intraracial xenophobia manifests in the U.S. between Black ethnic groups, specifically African American, Caribbean, and African people. A second research interest of mine is examining organizational policies and practices and the impact of harm they have on people, especially those who are marginalized. A third research interest of mine is social behavior related to COVID-19 and the long-term impact that COVID-19 will have on marginalized people.

Prior to starting my PhD program, I spent 15 years in college admissions counseling, with the majority of my career on the college side. I’ve worked at Syracuse University, University of Richmond, and Earlham College, and also read applications at University of California, Berkeley and Georgia Institute of Technology. I most recently served as the inaugural College and Career Coach at Walter Payton College Preparatory High School in Chicago, IL.

My previous academic experiences include Syracuse University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in history with a concentration in U.S. history, and Fisk University, where I earned a master’s degree in social justice. My master’s thesis was entitled, “Put Me in A-Flat: An Exploratory Study on What Benefits Musicians in the Black Church Receive,” which used a qualitative research approach with participatory observation research and interviews. I have also received a master’s degree in social policy with a concentration in economic and racial equity from Brandeis University, to mark the end of my PhD coursework, and have transitioned from PhD student to PhD candidate after passing my Comprehensive Exam.

I enjoy reading, eating, traveling, singing and playing piano, watching tv and movies, playing video games, and more. Please explore my website and learn more about my work.
